PHOENIX Pharma Switzerland AG and family firm Voigt Holding AG founded a 50/50 joint venture in the form of avosano AG at the end of April 2023, combining pharma wholesale (Amedis-UE AG and Voigt AG Pharma Grosshandel) and pre-wholesale (Voigt Industrie Service AG) activities under one roof.
The consolidation phase started once the joint venture had been established. A vision was created and developed for the future avosano. It is now clear that the requisite exploitation of synergies and long-term positioning of the company in a strong second place on the Swiss healthcare market will only be possible if the companies combine their forces within the wholesale and pre-wholesale business areas. This will see the strengths of the respective companies merged. Existing structures will be used as a basis for this, undergoing a process of ongoing development. This will see the emergence of an even stronger market partner, capable of addressing the future challenges of the healthcare market in Switzerland with state-of-the-art infrastructure and innovative services.
Modernising and joining forces
In future, avosano will comprise a more modern, innovative East-West axis of three logistics locations in Switzerland, enabling efficient, high-quality Swiss-wide deliveries to all partners. This will involve expanding capacity at the current locations Niederbipp (Voigt Industrie Service AG), Romanshorn (Voigt AG Pharma Grosshandel) and Puidoux (Amedis-UE AG), facilitating the integration of the Unterentfelden site (Amedis-UE AG) by mid-2025. This step is necessary because the Unterentfelden site will require extensive modernisation. Concentrating on three instead of four locations will make it possible to exploit the required synergy potential of the joint venture. To meet the requirements of the future-oriented modernisation of the Puidoux distribution centre, a prior transfer of Amedis-UE’s pre-wholesale activities from Puidoux to Niederbipp will take place by the end of 2024.
A strong organisation for the future
The umbrella organisation avosano Holding AG will be established to achieve the aim of pooling expertise. The other companies will be grouped under this. Over the course of 2024, the current avosano AG, which holds 100% of the shares in the operational companies Amedis-UE AG, Voigt AG Pharma Grosshandel and Voigt Industrie Service AG, will be renamed avosano Holding AG. The two wholesale companies, Amedis-UE AG and Voigt AG Pharma Grosshandel, will merge and then operate under the name avosano AG. Voigt Industrie Service AG will change its name to avosano Industrie Service AG. avosano Industrie Service AG will combine all pre-wholesale business of Amedis-UE AG and Voigt Industrie Service AG. The full organisational and structural transformation of avosano Holding AG is expected to be concluded by the end of 2026 at the latest.
The new structure will be based and dependent on the existing employees. Offers will be extended to all employees affected by the change. The affected employees will be supported throughout the transformation process. They will be duly notified of any specific measures.
